The Hunt Regional Internal Medicine Residency Program, sponsored by the Arkansas College of Osteopathic Medicine (ARCOM) in Fort Smith, Arkansas, is committed to providing an exceptional, advanced education in internal medicine. Curriculum Schedule

Schedule Details

Residents are provided a unique geriatric rotation with hospice, palliative care, and inpatient rehab.

  • Residents will have protected time in their PGY-3 years to work on scholarly activity.

  • No more than 80 hours per week is spent on patient care duties.

  • Residents have at least one full day out of seven free of patient care and responsibilities.

Electives occur in the primary care and specialty offices (which may include inpatient consults). Residents will have opportunities with physicians at Hunt or in the surrounding area for electives in:

Application Eligibility

An applicant must meet one of the following qualifications to be eligible for appointment: 

  • Graduation from a medical school in the United States or Canada, accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) or graduation from a college of osteopathic medicine in the United States, accredited by the American Osteopathic Association Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (AOACOCA); or
  • Graduation from a medical school outside of the United States or Canada, and meeting one of the following additional qualifications:
    • Holding currently valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) prior to appointment; or
    • Holding a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the United States licensing jurisdiction in which the ACGME-accredited program is located.
  • All prerequisite post-graduate clinical education required for initial entry or transfer into ACGME-accredited residency programs, AOA-approved residency programs, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC)-accredited or College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC)-accredited residency programs located in Canada, or in residency programs with ACGME International (ACGME-I) Advanced Specialty Accreditation.
    • Residency programs must receive verification of each resident’s level of competency in the required clinical filed using ACGME, CanMEDS, or ACGME-I Milestones evaluations from the prior training program upon matriculation.

 

Appointments

Applicants who successfully match with our program must provide the following documentation prior to the start of the program: 

  • Official medical school transcript with degree issued and date of issuance
  • Copy of medical school diploma
  • Copy of social security card
  • Copy of current driver’s license
  • Copy of permanent resident card, if applicable
  • Copies of current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • If required documentation is in different names, then proof of name change (i.e. marriage certificate or court document) must be provided

In addition, applicants must successfully complete all HRH employment requirements prior to the appointment date. Requirements include a background check and pre-employment drug screening.

Failure to provide any required documents or to successfully complete all HRH pre-employment requirements by the date of appointment will result in automatic withdrawal from the program.
